annoying session

Just got done with a 1600 hand session in which I lost 2k. I was bouncing up and down every couple of hands and it felt like one of those sessions where I was just destined to end down and lose money. Every time I managed to claw my way back into the green, I would instantly run into a cooler or setup to take it all back and then some. I should still be over the +10k mark for the month (depending on if full tilt wants to continue to doom switch me on the 30th) which isn't all that bad considering the little amount of hands I've put in this month.

The following are some of my bigger losers and winners of the day...

Vegas Trip Report

Just got back from Vegas yesterday after a solid week of Vegasing. Ate at a bunch of good restaurants, went to the "beach" a ton, saw a few great shows, and more importantly played drunken slots/blackjack as most of my gambling. I don't have any actual pics yet since my gf hasn't put them online but I will get some of those up when she does.

Right when we got there to check in at ~1:30am, we were trying to get a combo of a good view + a king sized bed instead of 2 queens and ended up getting upgraded to a suite in THEhotel, the newer building addition to Mandalay Bay. I can't say I don't run good.

Even though we still had 2 queens, it was an awesome room and had a seperate living area as well as 2 bathrooms.

Nobu (Hard Rock):

One of the first (and best by far) restaurants I we ate at (my gf and I) was Nobu. This place was just awesome and we ran up a pretty huge bill drinking some pretty decent saki and ordering the following: Yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno

Tuna salad

Squid pasta (squid are shaped like noodles)

Rock shrimp tempura

All in all we ordered the saki and 7 dishes which came out to be ~$300 bill between the 2 of us. I recommend anyone going out to Vegas this summer to definitely check this place out at the Hard Rock.

Aureole (Mandalay Bay):

We went to Aureole Friday night right before our KA show. It was pretty sick and had a 3 story wine rack with harnessed "wine angels" that would fetch a bottle for you if you were baller enough to spend the massive amount of cash to get one.

I ended up getting the filet mignon with tiger prawns as did my gf. We grabbed a few glasses of wine and also a dessert each, but the waiter brought us out a free third dessert that we were contemplating over before ordering. I run good.

B&B Restaurant (Venetian):

This place served up some pretty good Italian dishes. I was pretty boring and went with the Spaghetti with 1lb. lobster and a few glasses of some pretty decent Pino Noir red wine. It was Chef Mario Batali's restaurant so it had to be good right?

Cirque de Soleil KA:

This show was absolutely awesome. I wish I caught a few more cirque shows but I guess I'll just save it for next time I'm in Vegas.

Monty Python SPAMALOT:

On our last full day, we ended up going over to the Wynn and I convinced my gf to go and get a players card with my since we might get some free shit with it. It turned out that we got to swipe our new cards once at the sign up booth to spin an electronic wheel where you could win $10 free slot play, buffets, even $10,000 slot play. I ended up winning "2 show tickets" that were for the SPAMALOT 8pm show.

I figured the tickets would be nosebleeds but they actually turned out to be front row dead center. I wasn't a big Monty Python fan but the show was actually really great and pretty hilarious. The main actor was the guy that used to be on Seinfeld (John O'Hurley).
We also ate at the Bellagio buffet and the Wynn buffet which were both pretty close in quality and both very good. I wish I was obese and could have eaten more but I had to tap out pretty early at both.

Other than that, we mainly drank all day and layed out by the pool/lazy river.

Didnt play at all over the weekend bc i was down the shore for memorial day. Had a great time but I am so sick of drinking now lol. Logged on today and saw some good 10/20 games running so I couldnt resist obviously and sat at a few tables, only to experience the usual riggedness that comes once I am sitting at any 10/20 tables. I know even looking at ev graphs is stupid but holdem manager does it automatically when you look at the graph so I can't help myself. Down 7k in all in expectation for the day and down 9500 total. This is particularly annoying bc Im leaving for europe on thursday until June 16th. I wont really be able to play there I don't think so I was hoping to grind up more of an online roll in preparation for vegas. Oh well.

Leaving for vegas on June 25th and staying at the Venetian with some college friends for 5 nights until I move into the house where the rain won't stop.

Here are some interesting hands from today:

I don't really know balugawhales game that well and wasn't sure what to put him on here. TBH I probly wouldve chk-folded turn on any blank too, but that card looks especially bad so when he bets it I gotta be toast. It's a tough spot to play bc folding flop feels too weak and if I commit on flop Im only getting it in behind. When I just call flop though it leaves the door wide open for him to fire a bunch of turns and put me in a real tough spot. AK I would just go with on the flop here. With KJ Im wondering what ppl think about min-3betting his raise and folding to a 4bet. Bc the stack sizes would be too awkward for him to shove a flush draw I think, so if he has a fd I think he's more likely to flat the min-3bet and play pretty straightforward after that. The only hands I think he 4bets are the NFD/sets/2pr/oesfd so we basically have no equity against that range anway. If he's on air I don't think he'll continue to play back to a 3bet, no matter how small. Would appreciate some input on this.

In this hand I just don't think he ever has anything that beats me, so my raise on the river is for value hoping maybe he'll make a spite call w A hi or if he turned a 6 into a bluff or something. Donks just don't bet that river w a ten like ever and if he turned a jack so be it, but I felt pretty confident that he had some missed fd/gutshot something random and thought there was some value in a raise on the river.

I flatted here bc I know hugo loves 3betting/squeezing and thought I might be able to get him to put it in light if he did so even w like AJ or something bc he tends to give me no respect since I play back very light against his 3bets (probly too light). When ghazzer flats thinks its a pretty easy shove by me since most ppl tend to 4bet QQ+ there hoping to get it in pre and not giving me odds to call w a wider range. This hand actually played out perfectly until river :p

I think this hand is pretty standard for me. Think I get more value out of QQ there by flatting pre and chk-raising a lot of good flops. Also widens my chk-raising range which is good for metagame. Think I have to go with it once he clicks it back too, I guess he could have AA/KK here as well but I still think Im in good shape against his range and when he clicks it back on such a dry flop I didn't expect him to have much to be honest. Nice hand by him.

This guy was a fish but not the type that went to every showdown or anything. I thought I had a ton of fold equity on river, and I like chk-raising there better than calling bc in theory I thought I could fold out a 9 if thats what he was betting or maybe TT/JJ or something. I would play a king this same way a decent amt letting him bet the river in case he had a missed draw. Good call by him I guess but I still think I like how I played it.

The Long Awaited Blog Post

It's been too long since I've made a post. I 12 tabled some 2-4 yesterday for 30 mins and somehow lost 2k. It didn't feel like I lost that much, but then I looked at the hand histories and I lost most of the flips. I grinded a lot yesterday, playing up to 9 tables at a time (3-6, 5-10, 10-20) It can be pretty crazy when you have a tough spot on 6-7 tables especially with the new deep tables. I think with more practice I can handle 9, but for now 6 tables will be my max. (unless I'm feeling a rush)

Heres my graph from yesterday.

3/6 is my friend

this has been my past 3 days there. ive had a lot of fun playing it too bc ive been experimenting w/ a bunch of different lines and really trying to apply pressure on other regs regs. i feel more free to do it there bc losing a buyin doesn't hurt as much as opposed to 5/10 or 10/20. the regs also put up way less resistance at 3/6 so its easier to run them over. its also helping my game bc im thinking more about how i can play different hands and im trying to focus on exploiting the regs there. im already picking up on some things that i wasnt even really looking for as much before.

it feels really good to be almost all the way out of my downswing in 3 days playing at a lower level then where my downswing occurred. even though i already passed my goal of making 10k at 3/6 before moving back up to 5/10, i still think im gonna grind 3/6 for the rest of the month. im obviously running very well there so why mess with karma?!?! and the games just seem so much softer to me right now that i think my hourly will be higher at 3/6 then it will at 5/10. ill still be on the lookout for some big fish though, so if i see one sitting higher ill still play. on a side note, i seem to go through these huge up and downswings on a pretty consistent basis the past few months and im still trying to figure out if thats normal for the stakes im playing or if not what the hells going on with that.

also hit the driving range today and cant wait to get out on a course again bc i was hitting the ball surprisingly well. hu4rollz haupt?

p.s. next blog post i think im actually gonna use capital letters and proper grammar, so don't be nervous

off to golf

I had a great lesson Tuesday, hit the range afterwards, and am pretty pumped to play in my league tonight. I hit a few balls in front of the instructor which went the usual high and slight right (fade) that I've been hitting all year. He basically just said ok, move this hand more here and this hand here to change my grip and I instantly started hitting the ball 2 clubs longer and slightly left(a draw, which is a much better and longer flight path). Funny how golf works.

I have been plugging in a few decent sessions at 5/10 and 3/6 over the past few days and am pretty happy about that. It has been awful swingy but I keep ending up on top for the day. I'm also pretty sure I made the TC vid and the sbrugby vid at 5/10 yesterday. I'll sign autographs later, I'm off to go stroke them. (the golf balls)

Back on the horse

so stuck with the plan today and grinded pretty much all 3/6 (5k hands) w/ a little 2/4 (125 hands). i made 8500 at 3/6 today which felt great, although i really wanted a 10k day there i ended up having to go to the bar for a little bit for a friends bday and didnt wanna play when i got back. i lost 350 at 2/4.

the games at 3/6 play so much easier than 5/10 imo, and i was obviously getting a lot better hands today. but i lost a few flips and had a bunch of flush draws hit against me and was still able to do well. the new deep buyin tables that allow you to buy in for 200bb's are so money bc even though i dont think im that good deepstacked yet some ppl just play like monkeys with deepstacks. deepstacks also allow for a lot more creativity than 100bb stacks so its fun taking different lines than usual. in my experience thus far it seems like no one wants to put in 200bb's w an overpair or top pair (understandable) but this can be very exploitable. since i am never getting paid off w sets/flushes/etc., i am playing a lot of random hands like i would sets and ppl just keep folding. its been great! everyones gonna adjust eventually but until then gonna keep applying pressure. its funny bc i noticed this even before the deepstack tables when i was 200bb deep w ppl they always seemed to play their hand so straightforward, w their only thought being i dont wanna lose 2 buyins here. especially in 3bet pots ppl seem to play very exploitably 200bb deep, and i dont even really know what im doing yet im just figuring it out a little better than some ppl i think. i definately am gonna take some deepstacked lessons from rbk.

thats it for now, hopefully things continue to go well at 3/6. ive decided no matter what happens im just gonna grind that for rest of the month so we'll see how it goes.

boo may

these past 2-3 months have not been that enjoyable poker wise. they were really swingy and it's tough not to think about it in whatever im doing that i won/lost 7k today. and itd be just like that, one day id win 6-10k and be on top of the world and the next day id lose the same amount and feel stupid for even playing. i hadnt been able to string many winning sessions together and thats frustrating. ive been really re-examining my game lately, watching vids, going over hands, got a lesson last week, and feel like im playing some of the best poker ive ever played. but i think im hitting the patch everyone always talks about where you run worse than youve ever thought possible. may has been especially brutal so far. for some reason it has stopped affecting me like most downswings do. it doesnt even bother me thinking about it and i think thats strange.

ive always thought that my greatest asset as a poker player was that i very very rarely tilt, and even big downswings dont affect me to anywhere the extent it sounds like they affect some people. i think part of this comes from the years of playing tennis and being out there having to deal w all the emotions of losing /making errors at critical times by myself. the downside of this is that often times when im in a downswing i dont bother to move down a level or so to where the swings dont affect me and just keep playing the same stakes ive been at if i think im playing well. this sometimes causes poor bankroll mgmt and either leads to a bigger downswing or gets me right out of the downswing. and theres obviously no better feeling than quickly making all your money back, even though its probably not the smartest thing to try and do.

whenever i lose a lot of money playing poker i just think how fortunate i have been to have made this much money already playing a card game and that gets me out of it. things i try to avoid: seeing any graphs by stinger or cts (except stinger's $1.2 mill in 14k hands graph bc thats just silly). browsing through bbv and reading about some bustos helps too. looking at money i have in the market and the bank also helps, even though the markets been killin me the past few months obviously.

any money i have in poker sites never seems real to me until i cash it out, so i tend to cash out when i either go on big downswings or upswings to remind myself that the money is real and either help make me feel better about a downswing or keep me playing focused during an upswing. so over the past week ive cashed out everything but 25k from full tilt and am gonna grind 2/4 and 3/6 until i make 10k there, then start playing some 5/10 again. the sick thing is that ive been doing alright at 5/10 this month but am down 15k at 10/20. and last month woulda made like 28k if i didnt play any 25/50 so if i just cut out the high stakes ill be fine. i can already tell how ridiculous the swings are at 10/20 where ive actually put in a good number of hands the past 2 months, and made 25k there last month and am down 15k there this month. but i feel like i need to make myself grind some hands at lower stakes as part punishment for my somewhat stupid bankroll mgmt and part just to get in a groove again. ill be very pissed if i start running really well when i play lower though lol thats the most frustrating thing ever.

everything else is going well other than poker though and am leaving for europe on may 29th. i am real pumped for that, and am going with a friend who is always a good time. im also heading to the preakness horse race in baltimore this weekend. ive been the past 4 yrs and its always one of the best days of the yr for me. cant beat drinking in a huge field with a bunch of your friends and 100k other ppl who are friends for the day. its my roomates bday on preakness this yr too so itll probably get especially rowdy, and hes lucky enough to spend his birthday w 100k friends. headin to pick up a cheesesteak now, life is good.

momma day

I've only put in about 9k hands this month which is pretty piss poor but I've been so busy with golf, going to the gym, getting ready for Vegas, helping people move out of their college houses, etc.

Golf results have also been unsatisfactory so far. I shot a 44 the first week out when we played best ball. The following week was my first match of the season. On one hole, I actually chunked the ball twice in a row so hard that my forearm started aching lol. On another hole, I was surprised to hit a decent drive and have about 160 in on a long par 4 only to yet again chunk my shot. The ball skidded fast towards the O.B. just to my left but I somehow managed to nail the base stand of a random bird house and it bounced back in. Man I run good. Needless to say, my opponent wasn't too thrilled with the course's choice of birdhouse location. I ended up tieing 6 holes, winning 3, and having the low net out of the foursome somehow with a 46 and remain undefeated in holes for the year.

Here are some of the bigger winners/losers/interesting hands from yesterdays session:

Cinco de Mayo

so april finished alright, +8k or so and then another 2500 in rakeback. was real excited to start some serious grindin in may and try to put a real good month together and this was my first and only session so far on the month:

and right off the bat im stuck like 10k on the month lol. oh well not worried about it. have had a great two weeks in terms of going out and having fun so guess ill take what i can get. we ended up killing 17 and 1/2 kegs, 2 handles of everclear, and like 5 other handles at that big party we had outiside our place last weekend. the cops stopped by in the middle of the afternoon so we got a little nervous but they were fine with it as long as no one was peeing outside. there were probably almost 250 ppl there at the peak and we ate an 85lb pig and a bunch of hamburgers and hot dogs and i didnt realize til the next day that i forgot to eat all day. i found out a couple of the other ppl throwing the party had done the same exact thing, we were just havin such a good time we didnt even wanna stop to eat. the last thing i remember is ripping shot after shot of cheap vodka late in the night bc thats all we had left to drink. surprisingly i didnt puke though, or at least i dont remember puking. i forgot to take any pictures which kinda sucks but we had two guys doing video for a bunch of the party so hopefully that turned out well.

played 9 holes of golf yesterday which was pretty ugly, but luckily my friends games were uglier so i still won some monies. sat night was my boy johnson from umds birthday so we hit up a bar to watch the flyers game which was siiiiick (theyre goin cupping) then hit a pretty beat strip club but managed to salvage the night by finding some dive hole in the wall bar that had karaoke by his house. we ripped some absynthe shots (which is legal again btw) that were pretty nasty and sang my fave karaoke song: whitney houston i wanna dance w somebody obv. the name of the bar was walt's inn and at the end of the night we got a great "walts in, stumble out" chant going.

already picked up the standard margarita ingredients for tonight: handle of jose, triple sec, and lime juice. i make em the old fashioned way, none of that premade bullshit.

as for poker goals for may, not really sure now. i have a little bit of money on stars right now so i might try to start playing some headsup there and use aggressive bankroll mgmt to build a roll. im probly not gonna be able to play much this week, but starting next week i also wanna start grindin a ton of hands at 3/6-5/10 on full tilt before i head to europe on the 29th. i plan on taking some more riverboatking lessons too as my first one went really well (albeit expensive at 500/hr).

alright thats it for now, make sure u bring out your sombreros tonight.

weeeeeeee

My sessions have been super swingy the past week or so and I pretty much haven't made any monetary progress. I was super frustrated a few nights ago when I was up about 6k from 3/6 and 5/10, took a shot at 25/50 with a huge fish and a bunch of SSers, and insta lost ~4k in back to back hands.

The first hand was 5 handed, I opened TT on the button to $150, the BB w/ $1200 behind calls, flop comes Jxxss, he checkraises I push the rest in and he shows JT- no dice on the 1 outter.

Very next hand, still 5 handed, I open AKo in the CO, a $2500 (50BB) stack 3bets to $550, the BB (50BBs behind as well) shoves, I tank for a bit and feel silly for even doing so with that much money already on the table, and shove myself. Button folds and BB shows AA, gg me and a decent night. I then ran AK into a squeezing KK a few orbits later at my 5/10 table for ~130BBs to seal the deal on the night. Meh, oh well.

This month hasn't gone exactly well but it isn't like my LOL February. I am going to end up with mediocre results which I am pretty unsatisfied with considering the way I came out of the April gate. Hopefully May will be a lot better, I am taking a lot more shots at 10/20 now so I expect it to be swingy and either really good or really bad. Gamb00l.

As far as golf goes, I haven't played since going out last week. I hit about 13 trees in 9 holes and ended up with a 45. Not exactly horrible, but not great at all. I should probably pick up a new driver since I'm still using my Dad's older 10.5 Cleveland Launcher. With how high I hit that, I am glad I am only hitting trees and not taking out any innocent planes.

My first league match is tomorrow evening playing best ball format. They have my handicap set at a 10 (I haven't had an established handicap in years) which should be fairly accurate so hopefully I hit a decent ball and destroy the hackers we are playing. I'll post a TR afterwards.

Swongs

This has been my month so far. Add in money ive won on my laptop and the 2k i shipped being a degenerate in atlantic city and im dead even on the month. im not too happy about that but whatever. i have shipped 2k in rakeback already since ive played so many hands trying to get back to even, so i guess it is a positive month after all. i feel like im a rakeback pro along the lines of moo and hov and its not a happy thought haha. honestly if this was poker every month theres no way id still be playing, i dont know how they put up w these swings and basically living off rakeback (or having a piece of friend who luckboxes a donkament). i still plan on making 10k this month plus rakeback tho and will take any prop bets on it.

I still owe a few trip reports and Im gonna put them up this weekend at some point, been slackin on the blog. We're also throwing a huge party on saturday. Getting 15 kegs, a pig roast, 2 live bands, a dj, and 2 ice luges. Should be a blast, it better not rain.

monthly update

The 4 of us basically suck at updating this blog so I'm gonna give the rainmakers a courtesey post right now. Poker has not been too much of my friend this week, I'm running pretty bad and most of the awfulness happens at 10/20 unfortunately. I now have mediocre results for the month so far but hopefully I can scrape something out within the next week.

Today I have to go get the snow tires off of my car, get it inspected, and then head to the golf course to meet up with my Dad and some of my league members. I ended up joining a golf league for the first time this year at a pretty decent course with a ballin bar. I'll try and post scores/improvements ect/ throughout the summer since I plan on doing a ton of golfing. I used to play on my HS team and was one of the top guys but really haven't practiced much since except for the occasional booze + play. Tonight plans to be no exception to that considering the course's bar and the fact that I've gone out a total of 1 time this year so far. Here's to scrambling!

small comeback

made another 1200 on my laptop too so im only down about 3k on the month now. im feeling very good about that. and i finally stacked ron fcking mexico! i didnt care if i went bust i was gonna stack him one time before i stopped playing 25/50. about to head to AC, planning on taking a shot at 25/50 and splitting the action if its running. i just took out 8k from the bank and im feeling pretty nervous just walking around with it, dont know what im gonna do with it when i get down there bc AC is so sketchy and i will not feel comftorable just having it on me. thats it, ill give a trip report after the weekend. gl
