weeeeeeee

My sessions have been super swingy the past week or so and I pretty much haven't made any monetary progress. I was super frustrated a few nights ago when I was up about 6k from 3/6 and 5/10, took a shot at 25/50 with a huge fish and a bunch of SSers, and insta lost ~4k in back to back hands.

The first hand was 5 handed, I opened TT on the button to $150, the BB w/ $1200 behind calls, flop comes Jxxss, he checkraises I push the rest in and he shows JT- no dice on the 1 outter.

Very next hand, still 5 handed, I open AKo in the CO, a $2500 (50BB) stack 3bets to $550, the BB (50BBs behind as well) shoves, I tank for a bit and feel silly for even doing so with that much money already on the table, and shove myself. Button folds and BB shows AA, gg me and a decent night. I then ran AK into a squeezing KK a few orbits later at my 5/10 table for ~130BBs to seal the deal on the night. Meh, oh well.

This month hasn't gone exactly well but it isn't like my LOL February. I am going to end up with mediocre results which I am pretty unsatisfied with considering the way I came out of the April gate. Hopefully May will be a lot better, I am taking a lot more shots at 10/20 now so I expect it to be swingy and either really good or really bad. Gamb00l.

As far as golf goes, I haven't played since going out last week. I hit about 13 trees in 9 holes and ended up with a 45. Not exactly horrible, but not great at all. I should probably pick up a new driver since I'm still using my Dad's older 10.5 Cleveland Launcher. With how high I hit that, I am glad I am only hitting trees and not taking out any innocent planes.

My first league match is tomorrow evening playing best ball format. They have my handicap set at a 10 (I haven't had an established handicap in years) which should be fairly accurate so hopefully I hit a decent ball and destroy the hackers we are playing. I'll post a TR afterwards.

Swongs

This has been my month so far. Add in money ive won on my laptop and the 2k i shipped being a degenerate in atlantic city and im dead even on the month. im not too happy about that but whatever. i have shipped 2k in rakeback already since ive played so many hands trying to get back to even, so i guess it is a positive month after all. i feel like im a rakeback pro along the lines of moo and hov and its not a happy thought haha. honestly if this was poker every month theres no way id still be playing, i dont know how they put up w these swings and basically living off rakeback (or having a piece of friend who luckboxes a donkament). i still plan on making 10k this month plus rakeback tho and will take any prop bets on it.

I still owe a few trip reports and Im gonna put them up this weekend at some point, been slackin on the blog. We're also throwing a huge party on saturday. Getting 15 kegs, a pig roast, 2 live bands, a dj, and 2 ice luges. Should be a blast, it better not rain.

monthly update

The 4 of us basically suck at updating this blog so I'm gonna give the rainmakers a courtesey post right now. Poker has not been too much of my friend this week, I'm running pretty bad and most of the awfulness happens at 10/20 unfortunately. I now have mediocre results for the month so far but hopefully I can scrape something out within the next week.

Today I have to go get the snow tires off of my car, get it inspected, and then head to the golf course to meet up with my Dad and some of my league members. I ended up joining a golf league for the first time this year at a pretty decent course with a ballin bar. I'll try and post scores/improvements ect/ throughout the summer since I plan on doing a ton of golfing. I used to play on my HS team and was one of the top guys but really haven't practiced much since except for the occasional booze + play. Tonight plans to be no exception to that considering the course's bar and the fact that I've gone out a total of 1 time this year so far. Here's to scrambling!

small comeback

made another 1200 on my laptop too so im only down about 3k on the month now. im feeling very good about that. and i finally stacked ron fcking mexico! i didnt care if i went bust i was gonna stack him one time before i stopped playing 25/50. about to head to AC, planning on taking a shot at 25/50 and splitting the action if its running. i just took out 8k from the bank and im feeling pretty nervous just walking around with it, dont know what im gonna do with it when i get down there bc AC is so sketchy and i will not feel comftorable just having it on me. thats it, ill give a trip report after the weekend. gl

yezzir

I haven't been playing a ton lately minus the last 2 days since I have a bunch of family up/have been sick for most of April. I did end up playing 7k hands between Wednesday and Tuesday, though. I want to make sure I get in a bunch of hands this month and the next before the weather gets nice and things like golf, basketball, and anything outside start to consume my life.

Both my marathon sessions went pretty well, I stuck to mostly 5/10 with a bit of 3/6 and just a pinch of 10/20. I am winning a lot more pots without going to SD which I like and think is reflective of my improvement over the past few months.

I'm headed to Buffalo this weekend and am looking forward to it. I plan on going to a pretty nice sushi restaurant Friday night and then to go check out the movie 21. Saturday night will most likely consist of boozing heavily.

GL at the tables.

april has been fun :)

April so far:

ive made like 2k on my laptop not in there but this downswing has not been too fun. think im gonna start grindin some 3/6 to try and get some confidence back. the sick part of this downswing is that its not even bad in terms of buyins. im down almost 15k at 25/50 this month (v stupid of me to play but was 2 big fish sitting and couldn't help myself). then a few buyins at 10/20 and a few at 5/10, adds up to 30 pretty quick.

here was a fun hand at 25/50:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2408954

i was gonna post some interesting hands ive had but dont really feel like looking through them at the moment. on the plus side im only down 10-11k on the month so if i can grind out 15-20k the rest of the month ill still have a decent month and feel much better about this downswing. thats the crazy part about poker.

headin to atlantic city this weekend, rented out a house w a bunch of my friends from college so that should be a good time. ill probably play some live poker, realize how much i hate it and how lucky i am to play online rather than live. i dont think there is anything less fun than live poker, unless youre just gettin drunk at the table and berating everyone. thats always fun.

So frustrating, all these have taken place in the 2400 hands ive played at 10/20 since april 1st. There was plenty more like these in the hands i played at 10/20 last month. i hate complaining about running bad but im finding it almost humorous so thought id share. Yesterday i was up 13k at one pt but ended up dumping a few buyins back to a fish w combination of bad play and running bad and ended up 5k for the day. Today i started off down 2k early and grinded back to +2k then back down to -2k when the 888 hand happened costing me 4500 so i quit -6500 on the day. Couldve been a lot worse i guess all things considered. and i know the rivers probably a fold in that 888 hand but by that pt theres 8k in the pot i only have to call 1k more and i needed to see his KKK so i could sleep better just knowing 10/20 is rigged.

**** /end whining

Im up around 5k on the month now but was up around 19k at one pt yesterday. On a positive note im actually enjoying playing again and plan on logging a bunch of hands this month. 5/10 continues to go very well also, and ive found a decent amount of regs at 5/10 have some pretty exploitable leaks.

i wanna post my luck anaylsis graph here since the beginning of april bc im not quite sure how to interpret it. this is from the 9k hands ive played on my desktop, ive also played a bunch of hands on my laptop this month which i dont have. if anyone could tell me what this means thatd be great. and i dont think im running bad in terms of allin luck more just getting coolered or getting money in bad on river after i was ahead on flop and turn.

Big ncaa championship game tonight. Ive already won one $100 pool for 1k no matter what happens and if kansas wins tonight mac and i chop with gary stevenson for first in 2p2 $500 pool which is 4k for first (meaning ill get 1k). if memphis wins i win a $25 pool for like $325 and get $250 for 2nd in the 2p2 pool so kinda a win-win. im very happy with this obviously since i always do a pool and never win usually. im feeling great about that and also feeling great about my poker game, think im playing the best i ever have and takin a break for pretty much the past couple weeks has gotten me mentally fresh again. actually gotta run now but gonna post some interesting hands ive played against some good players as well as a trip report from pittsburgh/tartan town last weekend.

Best month yet :(

I had my best month right after my worst month in February. After rakeback, I ended up about $40k after 28k hands. I was generally very happy with my play, improved a ton through lessons and sweats, and also ran fairly well. I just wish I logged more hands but knew it would be a low output month hand-wise due to a lot of friends/my gf/brother coming home for SB. But I am excited for April and hope I can put in more hands than March and bang out another successful month.

I also had a 2 hour lesson with Greg tonight which I was very happy with. I didn't get into any groundbreaking spots but got in a few standardish spots where I learned some different lines. I am also noticing that I am making the optimal play (or at least the most optimal that Greg and I agree on) or at least thinking of making it during the lesson a lot more than I used to. In many non-standardish spots, many of the better lines to take come to me almost instantly. I still realize I have a ways to go but it is nice to look back to a month ago where I was pretty far off from what I am now.

I had a pretty funny chat with a huge fish at the table during the lesson. His name was rod9 and I was joking to Greg about how rod1-rod8 must have been taken...

Me: rod, I guess rod1-8 were already taken?
rod9: Yea, I'm getting great cards.
Me: It rained yesterday.

Here are a few hands from my lesson that were the most interesting:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2364553
In this hand, villain was pretty nitty, had a small PF 3betting range, and also had a small WTSD%. My c/r on the river is actually a bluff since I am never getting looked up by worse but villain is capable of folding AQ, which was her most likely holdings. Either that or possibly A5. My plan was to c/f the river but the Kd that peeled turned out to be a pretty great card to bluff, especially after she makes such a small river bet. This is a spot I would normally just dump but really like the play.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2364565
Villain here is a regular and we had a bit of history at the table. He is very aggro in LP and I have been attacking his LP raises a bit when in position. He also makes his raises so small where I know he will be calling my 3bets lighter since they will, in turn, be smaller. So I think the entire hand is just about standard with the river being the only close street but I believe a player of his intelligence is going to continue bluffing that river card most of the time since my hand looks so much like AK/AQ.

Good luck to everyone in April.

ugh

dropped 9k today. 3k at 25/50, 3k at 5/10 and 1500 at 3/6 and 10/20. lets just say 25/50 is nuts!!

Here's a standard 10k coinflip that i lost:
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2318961

Don't fire 3 barrels into the nuts:
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2318973

Heres an example of what I always do when playing higher than usual. It happened when i moved up to 2/4 and 5/10 at first as well, I tend to outlevel myself into spewing chips. Here I was about to fold the turn then figured it was a good spot for him to double barrel so I called then on river since I had tanked before calling turn and my hand looks weak/like a missed draw and since in the other hand when he 3barreled and i called him down he showed air i thought that hed think that id think hed be less likely to do it w air again so its actually a good spot to do it with air. lol.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2318977

at 5/10 i was just getting coolered/sucked out on left and right so i was actually happy to only lose 3k. at 10/20 i was doing alright before this hand:
http://www.pokerhand.org/?2318988

oh well rough day i was due to run bad and run bad i did so guess it couldve been worse. if i had only won that 10k flip id actually be up 1k on the day. pokers crazy.

today drops me down to around +5k on the month in like 18k hands. i have not had any motivation to play lately and the only reason i even played at all today was bc there was a big fish sitting at 2 25/50 tables so i (w/ no regard to bankroll mgmt as usual) decided to sit wo even selling any action. hopefully i find some motivation to grind in the coming week and my new goal for the month is to grind back my losses from today playing 3/6 and 5/10 and finish around 15k for the month. im not gonna force myself to play tho bc that usually ends bad so we'll see what happens.

March Week 2

We are about halfway through March and I'm still running pretty well. I've been keeping up with watching some mid-higher stakes vids, lessons with Greg, and discussing certain hands and situations with my fellow rain makers. I'm slacking a bit as far as the number of hands played goes but I feel like I really am getting quality over quantity for the month and have been practicing pretty good table selection. I am not one of those regulars who will sit with 4 other regulars and a SS at a 5/10 table, which I see a lot of people doing. I know a decent 3/6 game or even a 2/4 game will be much more profitable and not as much of a 'grind'.

As far as real life plans, my birthday is this Sunday. I don't plan on doing much at all for it but plan on going out to dinner Saturday night with some drinks afterwards at it's bar. I've been to so many bars from living about a 30 second walk from a main strip at college to being in a fraternity to visiting my gf at college in Buffalo that I really am just bored of the entire bar scene. I would much rather go to a chiller place and drink, play some photo hunt obv., and just shoot the shit nowadays.

Good luck and keep making it rain.

Prop bet fish!!!

Well I'm doing what I said I wouldn't do again which is another prop bet. In the past I've done them for most hands and for trying to win $X in a month. Both times I started off on a downswing and lost all motivation to keep trying. This time there is really no time limit set which helps a lot because I'll never feel forced to play. I still want to get it knocked out before June 1 when I go to Vegas for 2 months. The bet is with philipsaurus from 2p2 and it's who has the highest ptbb/100 at 2/4 after 100k hands. I'm pretty confident I can do 5ptbb/100 even if I run a bit below avg. If I run good however I think I could put up something like 6-7, maybe even higher depending on how good I run and how long it lasts. The bet isn't for much and is more of just a friendly wager, his 2k vs my 1.6k. I feel like I have an edge even at even money so w/ odds I like my bet. He's definitely a very good player though and very capable of beating me. That's what makes it more fun and motivating though.

Just got back into town and over being sick. So far so good though for the few hands I've played. I guess I'll post my results here once a week or so w/ updated progress.

Hands: 1012
$$$$$: 2906.65
ptbb/100: 35.90

I hope to get in about 7k more hands by Sunday night and keep running well too 1 time.

found my dream car. gonna take me awhile but saw it in gas station down in miami and was so ridiculous, this pic doesnt even do it justice. the one i saw was all blacked out. the cars in miami are all just ridiculous, lets just say i stopped even looking at bentleys, aston martins, and maseratis bc i saw so many. and we saw this car pull up next to us and literally everyone started drooling. starts at a cool $194k, heres link to page http://www.mbusa.com/models/main.do?modelCode=S65

Robusto March!

I've put in almost 9k hands so far which is decent considering I didn't play at all on the 1st or 2nd of the month. I am definitely running pretty good and can't complain like I was in February when even the baby Jesus was mad at me. I feel like I am playing a ton better due to getting lessons regularly from Greg as well as running a lot better. My confidence is at an all time high right now and all I want to do is play a lot of hands/get a ton of lessons/do sweats sessions this month to really continue to improve my game.

I hope to grind a lot and March and hopefully keep up the pace to have my best month ever but I am predicting a slight drop in the hands played this month due to my gf coming back for spring break 1 week, my brother coming back the next week, along with some of my buddies who will also be back in town. I'm guessing I will mainly try and work the night crew and put in hands that way....hopefully.

I'm headed to Buffalo in about 45 mins to visit my gf for the weekend. I'm not too thrilled about the drive since it isn't snowing here yet and she said it is coming down very hard there, which is going to make for a long and dangerous drive knowing Rochester/Buffalo weather. gamb00l! I'lll be back Sunday afternoon and can hopefully fit into Greg's schedule to get another lesson and grind for the rest of that evening/night.

Here's my results for the first week of March:

Good luck and stay classy.

February Recap

So including $2800 in rakeback I made about 58k in february. My previous best month was about 30k in november but the past two months I had been struggling, with -8k in december and 8k in january. It felt great to have a real breakout month, especially considering before the month my goal was 20k and maybe giving myself a shot at cracking 30. I also played the most hands in a month Ive ever played, with over 60k hands (cant give exact number because im on laptop right now). So I didnt join the $1/hand club for a whole month but was at that mark a few times throughout the month. My goal now for the next few months is 30k/month. This might be a little high but I plan on playing mainly 5/10 w a little 3/6 and some shots at 10/20 when the games are soft. I took a few shots at 10/20 last month and so far this month and am about breakeven there. I had one real bad night that I think I already mentioned where I dropped 11k there so other than than Ive actually done pretty well. The weird thing about 10/20 in my little experience there has been that the games play much more passive preflop than 5/10 and probably even 2/4 just in terms of 3betting preflop. People seem to 3bet much less preflop in position but will just flat your open and make some moves after the flop. They also seem to give less resistance in defending their blinds, I think because it's so much tougher to play a 3bet pot oop. There are probably 2 other factors feeding these observations: 1)Im an unknown to most of the players there so they are probably trying to get a feel for how I play and not playing back at me as much and 2) Most of the times 10/20 runs it is running around a big fish and so most of the players at the table are more focused on playing hands in a way to stack the fish rather than fighting a high variance low ev battle w other regs that playing so aggressively preflop often turns into (and players at 2/4 were especially awful at realizing this in my experience, often isolating the fish out of pots to win 5 big blinds from a reg when they could take the fish's whole stack w a good flop. real smart). Its quite humorous at 10/20 though bc there will be these 5-6 person waiting lists for a table when a fish is playing then when the fish leaves everyone at the table sits out and the ppl from the waiting list start shuffling through the fish's seat until the table breaks.

Im in Miami now, have been since Sunday and leaving on sunday. Havent really played much poker because of that but put in a a +1500 session on monday and a +2500 one this morning so im pretty happy about that bc i only play like 2 tables on my laptop since it tilts me not playing on my desktop. Weathers been great too, and our hotels right on the the beach so ive been going in the ocean and having a relaxing week all around. Only been able to go out one night so far (Wet Willie's on south beach was pretty sweet) but hopefully am hitting up the hard rock hotel/casino tonight to get some gamble in. I hear they have some high stakes sitngoes so i might play one of the m because i heard the cash games are pretty stupid since theres $100 max buyin for 5/10.

Heading home sunday on a redeye which is gonna be brutal but guess i cant complain after a free trip. Katie's coming up next weekend because its her spring break next week so looking forward to that. Other than that just getting real excited for march madness, just got in a $100 pool w my older bro and his friends so should make it interesting. Just really hope the terps can pull off some wins at the end here to make it. My other team now, St. Joes, had a big win last night against #11 Xavier so that should help them (although its gonna hurt UMD). And in other news St. Margaret's/St Joes Prep Alum (represent) John Griffin hit 40 foot 3-pointer at buzzer to lift Bucknell over Navy in double OT. Shot was also #6 today on Sportscenter's Top 10. Thats how we do it baby.

Battles

I was just battling with "jus a bookmaker". UMD pointed him out to me. Here are some hands I had with mr bookmaker

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2215677

-I think I like how I played the flop. I can let him keep betting the turn if he has air in his range. Maybe a raise is better if I know hes not getting away from a flush draw or top pair.
-On the turn, I like a raise better now that I look at it. After watching him play more, his most likely holdings are top pair here and flush draws. And he's not getting away from either, so I shoulda just got it in to avoid any scared cards he could fold on river. But as we later find out, hes prob shoving any river here. Hes a menace.
-The river was obv an ugly spot. Hes never going to have a 4 here. So it was full house or busted draw. 3:1 odds on river. I don't think I can find a fold against this guy.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2215724
I'm a sicko winning this hand.
-On the flop I like calling even this deep. I will get away if flush hits on turn, but I think Jus a bookmaker is potting any turn because hes sick like that.
-On turn I called because at the time I wasn't sure if BigEasy was slowplaying trips with better kicker. As Mr. Townsend likes to say. "he was tricky trappy" And hes still not getting the right odds to call for a flush draw.
-River is obv a call, figured we were chopping. He just insta shoved that river, I don't understand. He has to put one of us on a queen.

He was the type of player that would make really bad value bets like that. I guess it widens his range. But you can still play your cards face up against him because he makes so many spewy plays.

A New Month

Haven't posted in a bit and just wanted to officially declare March "Robusto Month" after a pretty brutal Feb. I ended up making ~$10k the last few days to cut my losses to a very minimal amount for the month so I'm pretty happy with that. Since becoming pretty serious at poker, February goes down as both my worst monetary month and the month which I have learned and improved the most, as strange as that sounds.

I have high hopes for March and hope that with the combination of my new clown avatar (which is super intimidating), my dueness for the boom switch, and the continued lessons I've been getting from Greg will help me to play a lot better poker and even maybe make some money this month too :P.

The Swings

I've put in a lot of hands the past few days. I have to admit that I started to spew some when I got down. And something I will never try to do again is play more than 6 tables on my laptop. It gets out of control when I have tables 7 and 8 minimized and then they pop up when its my turn to act and block my other tables.

Have fun with this graph

Martathon session

Played a crazy session last night. Ill let the graph speak for itself.

Almost gave back all my money from the big day yesterday but managed to squeak out a small profit instead. Took me a lot of hands to do it, but it still feels good and now I can sleep easy. I actually made 11k at 5/10 in here in 5400 hands there, but I took a 10/20 shot that didnt go so well (-10k in 540 hands). There was huge fish sitting there and I had the golden seat to his left but he took some strange lines and I could not hit a hand once. I was playing 29/24 at that table which is vv loose for me because I was constantly isolating the fish and he would call with some garbage and I couldnt figure out how to take a pot away from him. I finally stacked him at the end but I had already given away a few buyins that had been dispersed amongst the table. Some tourny donk (had a gold jersey) was at the table too and I saw he was 4tabling 10/20 but he has some serious leaks in his game that I couldnt exploit as much because he was directly to my left and running hotter than the sun. I definately tilted away 2 or 3 buyins at 10/20 but other than that Im very happy with how I played tonight. Put in a looong session and was only tilted for about 10 minutes even though I was down almost 14k at one point. And the tilt didnt carry over at all to any 5/10 tables, just played extremely solid there the whole night.

Another interesting thing was that I was at a few tables with giggy and he seemed to be spewing pretty bad. He has a few leaks for sure (that he usually overcomes with just relentless preflop aggression) and I think I finally have a complete gameplan together for playing against him. He was probably just tilting or something last night, but watching the video he posted of himself playing actually helped me to figure him out better. Hes still a great player, dont get me wrong, but I think if he continues 8tabling 5/10 playing the same way he is now hes gonna run into some trouble because Im sure the other guys at 5/10 are gonna figure him out too and will be more focused on it since hes 8 tabling playing that way. I think his relentless aggression at 2/4 allowed him to get away with some stuff that he wont be able to get away with at 5/10 where the regulars are more in tune to the game.
Im actually up more on giggy (5k) than any other player in my PT database which was surprising to me considering he owned me and never lost a coinflip at 2/4.
For the month now Im at 51k in around 57k hands. I would love to finish at $1/hand for the month so thats my goal for the next couple days. At 5/10 im up 42.5k in 21k hands, hope that winrates sustainable ;)
